A little update…

Sorry for not being more prompt with the bloggin’ lately.  The weather has not been permitting; it’s been too nice outside to be inside sitting at the ‘devil machine’.  The words of wednesday are here without any Pomp or circumstance:

It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice.

That is said with my hemmeroid of a neighbor in mind.  Lord, have mercy on his demented soul.  ‘Nuff said about that guy.

A year to the day…

Nolan_circlecrop Last year at this time we were recuperating at Vancouver children’s hospital with our son Nolan.  For those of you who haven’t been reading my blog for that long, I’ll share the back story.

When my son Nolan was born it was noted in the first physical exam of his new life that he had a very small ’soft spot’ on the top of his head.  None of the doctors or nurses made a big deal of it, nor did they even make mention of it.  When it came time for our one week check up with our usual GP she felt the ridges on his head and made note of his bulging forehead and suggested we see a pediatricians, once more, to check on his soft spot.  At this point, a week after birth, you could NOT find his soft spot no matter how long you rubbed your fingers over his head.

We went to the appointment at the Ped’s office thinking all would be well and it would be simple and routine.  It was none of that.

Father’s Day adventures

We Drove down to Victoria yesterday with my in laws to celebrate fathers day.  First we stopped for breakfast and then we endured the drive out.  I hate the drive over the Malahat because the road is winding and the elevation changes make me car sick.  Once you get to Victoria however, it’s wonderful and there is a lot to do.  We just hung around downtown near the legislative buildings and the inner harbour and watched street performers.  It was a nice day.  We all had fun

I took many many photos and the special slideshow can be seen here.

Gotta run,

Genes and photos

Nolan driving

I took this photo of Nolan yesterday. He was fooling around in a little plastic car that our neighbours so kindly gave to us.  Of course, Nolan also fondly refers to this as ‘Go go’.  The other day he figured out how to climb in and sit facing forward so he could grab the wheel and honk the horn while also opening and closing the side door several times.  So much to do and so little places to actually drive.

Today I hauled the car indoors to keep him distracted for a little while (TV isn’t working any more ~go figure.) and he was looking so cute I couldn’t resist snapping off 60 or so shots with my camera.  I should have been using a tripod for these because he was moving so much they were all blurry- except for the steering wheel.  In every shot the steering wheel is in DIVINE focus but he’s a blur of energy.  A couple of them I managed to salvage with the help of my trusty rusty photo-shop and the optikverve ‘virtual photographer’ plug-in.   If you don’t have it yet- go and get it, it works with several different photo editing applications and it’s so easy to use.  I’ve salvaged so many gorgeous but slightly blurry shots with it- LOVE IT.  ANYWAY,

I found this photo (seen above) and right away I noticed how much like me Nolan appears in this shot.  Yes, even with the glob of drool dangling precariously from his lower lip.  There is still no denying who fathered him but it’s nice to see a glimpse of my genes once in awhile.

I’ve been trying to get the camera out everyday in hopes of Capturing a special portrait of Nolan for our living room wall, we have several of Paige and one of Nolan sleeping.  We need a full frontal face shot with his bright smiling eyes showing.  So that’s been my quest and this shot (and a few others I haven’t posted to flickr yet) are the closest I’ve come so far.  Since these ones were slightly blurry… they don’t make the cut.  One of these days…. I’ll get that shot I’m looking for.  Hopefully it’s before the day he graduates from highschool…

Take it easy,

Happy Birthday!

more Ken

Today is Ken’s birthday. We have plans, Paige is going to help make a brownie cake for her dad and we may go out and buy a present… but shopping with two munchkins isn’t my idea of a good time so his present may have to wait until the weekend. His mom and dad are planning a barbeque this weekend to celebrate since Ken is working a lot of hours this week.
32 looks good on you honey…
take it easy today- we’ll have brownie waiting for you when you get home!

A little joy of the frozen variety.

Yesterday my in laws invited us out to the park down by the harbour. We sat on the grass while the kids ran around and ate snacks. After a romp in the park we headed over to the ice cream shop which is usually a ritual the Grandparents do with the kids, but tonight I was able to partake. Whenever I go for ice cream (which contrary to popular belief isn’t that often) I usually pick the coffee flavoured one- theres always some kind of coffee flavoured ice cream. Always.
Not today. I looked through the different types of IC and nothing was blowing up my skirt, not even the Triple chocolate. Then I spotted this green stuff and noticed that it was called ‘Green Tea’. I asked for a taste and my tongue liked it. By the time I was done the cone I was thinking about buying an entire 5 gallon tub of the stuff.
If you have the opportunity, try it!
Funny though, when the ice cream comes back on you a couple hours later- the taste has lost a lot of it’s ‘charm’…
Note to self: do NOT buy a 5 gallon tub of Green tea ice cream.
