I tried to do something fancy with the quote but I’m kinda tired today so that was as good as it gets right now I’m afraid.
I spent most of the day farting around the house, and on the phone with various members of my family (love you guys!). So That left just a few hours to prep a few canvases for future collages (or whatever). It’s okay because I have to pick up a few things to do the collages anyway Prep work takes time so I guess I should consider today a success!
I also made a new recipe. I slightly altered a recipe for onion quiche- by adding sausage- it was quite good but perhaps a little too rich for this family’s good. Ken suggested that i put the egg filling on top of a hash brown layer instead of on a pastry shell… Definitely will give that a try. I don’t know what has gotten me back on my cooking kick, I used to love cooking but somehow getting married and having kids killed that desire. In our ongoing efforts to eat at home I’ve been trying new and different things every other day and so far it’s been fun (and tasty!) This was our dinner on Monday night- still dreaming about it. I tell you, that website (allrecipes.com) is a real winner, being able to see the reviews of a recipe is priceless and so far everything I’ve tried has turned out wonderful!! And no, I’m not being paid to plug their site- it’s just that great!
I haven’t mentioned earlier how my house has been plagued with sickness (or have I?), but finally I’m seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I took the kids into the clinic on the weekend because they had a rash that look suspiciously like impetigo. He confirmed my suspicions ::shudder:: and the doctor gave me some antibiotic ointment for their skin. It’s been three days since I started treating them and their sores are nearly GONE. Nolan had the worst of it due to his severely runny nose. I didn’t even want to take photos of him, he looked so bad, but now he looks like the son of a milkmaid. Paige only had one spot and it is nothing but a pink mark now. Thank goodness.
As for me, well Last Wednesday I stubbed my toe on the top step as I staggered back to sleep early one morning. It appeared that I tore part of my ‘pointer’ toe nail off. Sounds nasty but It didn’t actually hurt that bad at the time. A few days past by and I noticed that there was fluid leaking out from under the nail… hmmmm. One night I woke up with my toe screaming in pain and swollen up like a red grape. When I took the kids into the clinic for the impetigo I also logged myself in and asked the doc about my toe. He laughed and told me to soak it and treat it with the same ointment as he was giving to the kids. He took a swab just to test for any kind of nasty infection. As the next couple days went by the toe turned several shades of purple and got nastier looking and was so painful I could barely touch it to the floor. I managed to borrow some Epsom salts from my neighbour Laurie and soaked it several times yesterday and bandaged it up with the antibiotic ointment. Today it feels like a new toe. Still looks nasty but no longer painful to walk on. Just when I was about to snicker at the thought of having my toe amputated, I got a phone call from the doc. He said the toe tested positive for strep and I needed to go on antibiotics right away. Damn.
I’ve got to run in and pick up the script tomorrow, but I’m tempted not to bother… I think I’m on the mend now and taking the drugs isn’t always necessary. But the thought of having the toe amputated doesn’t appeal to me. I like wearing flip flops too much!!
I guess I just take the drugs and deal…
Anyway- That’s been the story of my week so far…
Fun no?

Take the damn drugs! have your kids had the strep/numo vaccine? E had it when she was a baby due to her severe ear infections, etc. It cost an arm and a leg, but she doesn’t get those infections anymore. You may want to look into it. i don’t like being put into the position of not being allowed to kiss my “little pooper”!
Yes Suz, both kids have had the pneumococcal vaccine This only protects against Streptococcus pneumoniae . The strep bacteria that caused the kids impetigo is the same strain that causes strep throat (streptococcal pharyngitis) so it doesn’t work. He didn’t tell me the strain in my toe- but I don’t care, got the meds and I’m taking them!!! LOL I like having all five toes on my cute little foot.
You and Nolan will be all kissy kissy in no time :0)
Gotcha
Strep anything isn’t good!
Get well soon!
I had impetigo a number of times as a kid because I was always full of mosquito bites and scratched them raw. I hope you are all recovered by the time you read this. I know what you mean about loving to cook but not having the energy and time for it. When your kids get a bit older they can get busy in the kitchen too and then the fun really starts. All but my 7 year old can cook a meal now.
