One track mind of a two year old.

Nolan came up to me today with a little statuette of a crocodile that my father in law brought back from Egypt.

"What’s this called?", he asked me.
"It’s a crocodile statue.", I said
"Can I drive it?" he asked with a big question mark on his face.
"Ummmm, sure." I said.
"Okay." he replied and off he went.

Boys definitely will be boys won’t they??

sum sum summer time.

I think about blogging a lot lately but I just can’t get my mojo on right now.  If I had a laptop that I could haul outside, it would be a different story… maybe.  Ya, your right, probabaly not.
Paige is going to be starting kindergarten soon, how did I miss the memo telling me that my little girl is growing up??  I’m bewildered by it right now.  It’s amazing and scary all that the same time.  That is pretty much the main milestone Paige is experiencing right now, but it is a big one.  Another milestone, although it’s not one worthy of celebration, are Cavities.  Of which, Paige has EIGHT.  Yes, that’s a damn lot of cavities.  I feel horrible for not pushing teeth brushing like I should have.  But we’ve turned over a new leaf and started new habits, toothbrushing is one of those new habits!  yahoo for us, even though it was something we should have been doing anyway… i’m so lame sometimes.

Nolan as you heard before is just crashing through milestones like a mack truck.  He no longer drinks from bottles and actually threw one in the garbage that his grandma found (WOW!).  It was a big struggle to get Paige off the bottles so the ease of this transition (which took place during our trip to Disney) has amazed me.  We also got him sleeping in his own bed!  He had made himself comfortable in Paige’s bed one night, snuggled up next to her- and just never left.  At first she didn’t mind but they started waking each other up at night which is a pain in my butt.  So I washed up his sheets with the cars and airplanes on them and cleaned up his bed, took the rail off, got him his own little stereo and now he loves his own room!  He’s such a big boy!!  Once again I am astonished.  The potty training is a work in progress but it’s been an easy road thus far… again- amazed.

Kids are great for that, one minute giving you a sense of pride in their accomplishments (Potty training, etc) and the next minute making you feel like a complete failure (8 cavities) as a parent.  What a job.  I’m just glad that the kids can’t fire me… yet.

On another note, I was super sad to hear tonight that my Grandpa’s dog, Poopsie, died yesterday.  Gosh she was a great little dog.  My Grandpa rescued her from a local gas station where we think she had been accidentally left by a trucker driving though.  Actually She rescued herself by jumping into the cab of my Grandpa’s truck and making herself at home! She was a total mooch for snuggles, but you couldn’t help yourself she was a sweet heart! She was the first dog I ever truly loved, and I know this because I used to be a cat person. Thanks for being such a great dog Poopsie you old gal,  We already miss you!!  (Yes, that’s me with Poopsie in 1996 or 97.)

On that note, I’m off for the night… take it easy folks.

Child in training, the potty variety.

Img_1141 The time has come when my two year old is demanding that I change his butt and he hasn’t even soiled his drawers yet.  He’s more than ready for potty training.  I’m quite happy and a little sad about it as I realize that I’m nearly out of the ‘diaper years’ which also means Nolan will then be a ‘preschooler’ and not a ‘toddler’ anymore.  No more babies in my house.

The feeling of sadness only lasts a minute until I think of no longer having to change poo diapers while I’m preparing or eating a meal…  That part is happy.

When Grandma Sharon first tried Nolan on the toilet he was very excited about it and did #1 a couple times with her.  I continued on the next day and not only did he do #1 a few times but he also did a #2, and He asked me to take him!!  Just when I tought that the whole process couldn’t get any easier he decided that he didn’t want to waste time sitting on the potty anymore.  Still likes wearing pull ups, but no potty business.  I’m not about to pressure him, he’s having fun talking about it and getting praise for past good deeds.  He’ll come around.

Because one thing is certain, he HATES having a dirty butt.

The latest Paige news is that she got her cast off yesterday!  She was terribly nervous about using the arm after having it bundled up for so long.  I took her swimming right afterward and she had no choice but to get it moving.  The arm looks great and somehow still managed to maintain a light tan!  She’s still treating it with special care but hopefully soon she’ll feel confident to use it the same as she used to.  We kept the cast, with stink and all, for memories sake.  I have a feeling that it may not be the last cast Paige has to wear in her lifetime.  She’s a bit of a dare devil, that child.

I must got and help hunt for hubby’s wallet…

Grass holes…

Two_gas_pipes On our way to daycare this morning a car drove passed us and Paige did her usual sniff of the gas fumes.

After expressing her affinity for gasoline fumes, she said, "Mom, that car has two GAS holes!"

"Gasholes?", I said with a big chuckle.

With a look of ‘mom you are so not cool right now’, she looked away and replied, "Moooom, I didn’t say GRASS holes, I said GASholes"

"Oh", I said, seeing that she clearly was too young to get the humour (thank goodness!)…

I’m still laughing about the gasholes.  I know so many gasholes…

Something I noticed…

Mini20donut20stand At any sort of festival up here in Canada, you can not go 30 feet without bumping into a ‘Mini donut’ stand. While on our tour of theme parks in the South western state of California I noticed no mini donuts, only Churros

Every 30 feet it’s a Churro stand, and they are all authentic Mexican.

I’m sure.

There’s no place like home.

Hello everyone (that is still reading this blog after all this time)!

We arrived home from our Disneyland adventures on the 30th but I’ve been quite overwhelmed with household duties, outdoor activities, dentist appointments and just plain old fatigue to hop on the computer and blog until now.

I have been rolling around in my head what I want to tell you all about our trip.  In case I haven’t mentioned this trip was a gift from my in laws to the entire family which consists of Ken and myself and our kids and my sister in law and her kids.

I tried my darndest to stay positive about traveling by car to Disneyland because I am a firm believer that things are as bad as you want them to be.  Which brings me to the part where we missed our ferry to the mainland by THREE cars which by itself isn’t that big of a deal.  When the kids got out of the car to play in the playground, Paige fell off the monkey bars and broke her arm…see photos of that here.  The ER doctors were amazing and pulled out all the stops to enable us to catch the last ferry of the day and continue on our trip on schedule.

like I said, I stayed positive BUT BY GOLLY it was hellishy hot in a few spots and our new Santa fe has no air conditioning.  Once we got over that part we were home free to enjoy Disneyland, at PEAK busy season.  Most rides were at least 30 minute wait but most of them were more like 45 mins to an hour.  A two year old can not understand why he can not get on the ride when it’s right there in front of him.  The concept of ‘waiting your turn’ hasn’t really got a meaning yet.  That part was hard on me, but he was pretty understanding about things for the most part.  We also headed out to see a few other things like Sea world, which I really enjoyed.  Knotts berry farm was awful, it was soooooo busy, worse than disney.  Nolan and I lasted 2 hours which involved him freaking out for 2 hours, one of those hours was waiting in line and getting on one ride.  So I hopped in the car with him and took him back to the hotel.  Lastly, we hit lego land which was a tad bit cheesy but both of my kids LOVED it.  There were a lot of activities there that didn’t involved an hour wait (or ANY wait) but we did manage to wait in a couple long lines.  One was for the skytrain which was a 25 second long ride but I really enjoyed each second, as did Nolan. This was their favorite part and they spent several hours playing in here and Nolan got his dream of being able to ride a little train over and over and over again with ZERO waiting time.

Disneyland, as an adult, didn’t enchant me.  There were too many people there and the heat was hard to deal with but I actually managed fairly well.  I think if we had been there during a slower and cooler part of the season and we had left some of our relatives at home… it would have been absolutely wonderful and I’d have better memories of the place.  My children (mostly Paige) absolutely LOVED it all, and for that I will always be thankful to my mother and father in law.

I am currently in the process of posting photos to flickr from the trip here’s the set I’ve created for the Disney road trip adventure.  Check back to my photo SETS for more photos from the actual Disneyland Theme park and other related places.

Okay, I’m not so overwhelmed now and blogging should continue as sporadic as it ever was now that Summer is in full swing and the kids are hanging out in the sunshine all day.  But I’m trying my hardest.

Deb, we drove past Livermore on our travels and I thought of you!!

Take care all,

~jen
