halloween goodness.

Kidsathalloween
This photo is so funny, it kind of looks like a movie poster.  You know when they montage the images of the actors together.  Elizabeth is so dramatic in the background as Belle.  Paige is starring as Bloom, the winx girl, and Nolan is starring as himself.  He’s himself with more facial hair.  Ken called him Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita), which is quite accurate.  I snuck a little ‘words of wisdom’ in there since it is wednesday and I have been totally slacking on my quotes!

A few words for Sunday…

July It’s not of the wisdom variety but i have been meaning to blog with not much blogging time.  Tonight, I find myself with all children tucked in, my hair coloured (looks great) and still awake (thank you Diet pepsi).  Earlier this evening I completed another digiscrapbook page and I actually feel like starting a painting right now.  Yes, I said it- a REAL watercolor painting.  That means you, Deb, are coming up.  I’ll try and email you with a sketch but you know, the way I work, I may email you with a completed painting.  After waiting nearly a YEAR… I think you’ll be happy either way LOL!
I’m horrible like that.

The cutest thing…

I was recently reading the illustration blog called Drawn! and came across this absolutely darling animation called "David’s New Snail".  It’s illustrated by Mike Adair and features the voice of his son David.  It’s so cute I can’t help but watch it over and over again.  Once I showed Paige, she also felt the need to watch it over and over.
I really want to learn to illustrate- not really animate- but simply illustrate like this but I’m sure it will involve a couple years of schooling and many dollars.  If anybody knows of any tutorials- please pass them on… I want to learn!!

Cool stuff for kids and kids at heart.

My hubby watched an interview with the inventor of these new ‘coloured bubbles’.  He was discussing the trials and tribulations behind developing a bubble that would be brilliantly coloured throughout, be non toxic and non staining.  I heard some of the story from Ken and we decided to look the product up on the internet… Wow. They are called Zubbles.

I will be the first one in Wal-mart when these come out.  We all LOVE bubbles around here and these look like a blast!  If you’ve got kids (and even if you don’t) these will be a must for a good time.

Just doing my Duty as a parent- sharing the ‘wealth’ with other parents out there…
Don’t say I never gave ya’ nothin’.

Did you know, Did you care??

I told you on wednesday about my computer going on strike.  I ended up having to reinstall my photoshop CS (fun times).  We also had to restore the computer back to the beginning of april when we formatted the hard drive.  I discovered today that my entire font collection (yes, the same one I spent 6 hours replenishing) was missing.  I didn’t realize that the fonts could disappear during a system restore.  You learn something new everyday.  I hate those kind of tedious, time consuming lessons though.
I did manage to find some new jazzy fonts and was itching to use them so I decided to do a new scrapbook page!!  I took some really cute shots of Nolan in the tub and they made the cutest little Layout.  See it in my folder at the bottom right or just click HERE.

I have a real thing for fonts- I collect them because you never know when you are going to use them… (yeah, right).  I also am a certified graphic sign artist- which means I’ve worked with Type and typesetting a lot, so it’s my nature to obsess over fonts.  Most of the fonts I have collected get tossed six months down the road because i realize that I’ve never used them and probably never will.  So I clean them out and collect new ones.  There are so many available for free it’s amazing.  I have acutally purchased a few too (that’s how deep the collecting need goes).   When you use just the right font in just the right project, the look can be amazing.  Most of the time Simple- is the best.

If you feel like you need a new font wardrobe, check out some of my favorite places to find cool fonts:
www.dafont.com  and www.fontface.com (click on the face) as well as, www.fontfreak.com and simplythebest.net/fonts/. Those two sites are so large it should take a fair amount of time to get through them- then I’ll introduce more. When your addicted like me. A lot of the fonts are duplicates on the sites, but every once in awhile you’ll find something different.
Have fun!
Check them out now, thank me later.

The Orchid show.

OrchidslideToday was a perfect day to visit the local mall with my camera and take photos of some very exquisite and beautiful Orchids.  The local ‘Orchid club’ was holding a show and i must say, it was very impressive.  I had been through the mall on Friday and noticed the flowers.  I asked the hostess if it was okay to  bring my camera and take photos and she said "By all means!!".
For those of you who may not know, I paint watercolors and one of my favorite subjects is flowers.  All I could think of was- "What stunning reference material!!".    I created the slide show to the left but you can see better shots with my flickr slide show here.  Just thought I’d share a bit of spring flowers with all of you.
Hope you are all having a wonderful Sunday!

Page me

When are they going to start adding a Page button on DVD players and TV’s for those times when you can’t find the remote control???
Our DVD remote went missing yesterday after the hub bub with all the kids and I still can’t find it!  Of course 90% of the controls to run the machine are only available on the remote control.

I remember that Magnavox had this feature on a tv… about 10 years ago.  You’d think it would be standard by now???

Grrrrr.

Where is it now?

what ever happened to ‘Ring around the collar"?   As a kid, that seemed to be the only thing you ever heard during daytime T.v. commercials.
While doing laundry the other night (big shocker) i was thinking about it… you never hear Laundry detergent companies claim to remove RATC anymore.  This made me wonder, has it been eradicated from existence?  Surely not- there are many people working on wall street and at Wendy’s that still wear collars that most certainly are suffering some form of ‘ringing’.   I googled "ring around the collar" to find the image to the left and discovered a little something,  a secret the laundry detergent people don’t want you to know.  The no longer mention RATC in their commercials because there is a better solution to the problem (besides throwing the shirts in the trash)- Shampoo.  Apparently it works better than laundry detergent.  Don’t ask me how or why it works, but that is what the people on the google say.  Rub the collar with shampoo, let it sit until you launder the shirt and Voila- ring gone.  I wouldn’t know anything about this since we barely ever see collars around here and when we do, they don’t get worn long enough to develop any type of rings (lucky me). It’s something I thought you guys would like to know, I like to keep my reading public informed.
The things I think about while my hands are busy doing mundane chores… it’s dangerous.
Personally if I run across a stain that is persistent (by persistent i mean that it makes it through one wash) and it particularly disgusts me, I like to bleach the begeebers out of it, light it aflame, OR simply throw it in the garbage under the cover of darkness.
But that’s just me.
Have a great day- now that you are armed with this new found knowledge, i know you will.

I hope this works, please let me know if you have any problems trying to view this!
